Is Jesus Worth It?
University of St. Thomas 2021 Campus Update
In Paul’s letter to the Philippians he says, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” He goes on to explain that dying is gain because he would get to enjoy the presence of Jesus. Paul also says that for him to live is Christ. Well, what does that mean? I think Paul is actually saying the same thing twice! What living means for Paul is a daily form of dying. In other words, Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” To the typical student at the University of St. Thomas (UST), following Jesus doesn’t seem worth the cost.
St. Thomas is a school where academics, career, and partying are highly emphasized and Jesus gets in the way of this comfortable lifestyle. Students are more interested in investing their time in things that will further their career and social status than having a conversation about why it’s worth following Jesus. But it is for that reason we are here. Despite the culture at UST, we have seen God save students from death to life. These students who once saw worldly success as gain can now say with Paul that dying is gain because Jesus has become their treasure. With that, we eagerly await for God to continue to raise up laborers at UST who “no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”

Student Quote
“Through being involved with Campus Outreach, I get to grow in my walk with God alongside a close knit community. A community that is always there to talk and finds a way to find the positives of every situation.”
